Gardening Power Tools
Overview of the UK Garden Powertools Market
The gardening power tools market in the UK was worth £302 million in 2005.
It can be segmented into three broad segments: Tidy and Clean (blowers and vacs, shredders and mulchers etc.), Cutting and Edging (trimmers, strimmers, shears, loppers and saws etc.) and Lawn Care (electric lawn rakes, scarifiers, cultivators, aerators).
The gardening power tools market was worth £302 million in 2005 and can be split into three broad segments:
All the segments are populated by a large number of suppliers but the dominant brands are those with distribution through the DIY multiples, the channel which accounts for the largest share of sales of these kinds of goods to the consumer. Thus, multinational corporations like Black & Decker, Bosch and Electrolux have the largest market shares, although this has been eroding slightly over the course of the last five years.
Almost all manufacturers of gardening power tools also operate in the home DIY sector since most products are based on the same essential characteristics just adapted to slightly different environments. However, there has been a trend in recent years of companies with strong brand recognition in other sectors of the UK gardening market (especially hand tools) extending their product ranges into the power tools sector using OEM manufacturers and re-badging. Some of the larger multiple retailers have also begun to sell own-brand products.
